D. E. L. T. A.
By Rev Albert Kang
One
of the exciting ministries this year is the Cell Ministry. Previously, it was
known as Oikos Network. Today it is known as “Delta Cells Ministry.” This is
not just a change of name but also a change of the whole Cell system.
“Delta” stands for:
D
– Discipling God’s People
E
– Evangelizing the Community
L
– Loving God and Fellow Men
T
– Teaching God’s Word
A
– Adoring and Worshipping God
Delta
Is The Whole Church
Delta
Cell Ministry must not be viewed as part of the church programs. It is not! Delta
Cell Ministry is the whole church itself.
Everybody who attends our church is strongly encouraged to attend Delta Cell
Groups. The new concept in our Cell system is revolutionary. This new approach
has within itself the benefits of a fellowship group and an evangelizing group.
Delta
Cell System is different from Dr. Ralph Neighbours’s Cell system which was the
Oikos system that we have used for many years. Though many large churches have
used Dr. Neighbours’s system, their pastors have found it to be imadequate for
long-term relational bonding among the members. The system is too nomadic and
highly impermanent as far as interpersonal relationship is concerned. In
short, Dr. Neighbours’s method has its primary focus on winning souls but that
it does not take into account the importance of long-term interpersonal
relationships. It is more of a task-oriented system than a people-oriented
system. A Cell Group is forced to grow as rapidly as possible. It has to
multiple within six months or else it will be forced to close. Such rapid growth
creates a high turnover of new people. A person attending a fast-growing Cell
soon realizes that it is difficult for him to establish long-term meaningful
relationships. Before he could make new friends, they are or he is moved to
another Cell group.
With
our new Delta Cell system, we will be able to win souls and still continue to
develop good long-term relationships. Our much-treasured friendships within the
Cell will remain intact even after many years.
Delta
Cell System works like this:
1. You
will be attending 2 different Delta Cells in a month.
2. The
one where you are attending will be known as your Original or Mother Cell.
3. The
cell that you and some of your friends from the Original Cell plant will be
known as an Outreach Cell or Daughter Cell.
4. You
will be attending these Cells on alternate weeks.
5. One
week you will attend your Original Cell and then another week, you will attend
the Outreach Cell.
6. The
Delta Leader from your Original Cell will separate you and your friends into two
or more task forces to launch Outreach Cells at different locations or with
different groups of people.
Please
take note of item 6 above. Every Delta Cell is different because of the
combination of talents. If there are more effective leaders with strong
evangelistic gifts in your Original Delta Cell, your Delta Leader may divide
your Delta Cell into smaller task force units and launch more Outreach Delta
Cells.
This
is all you need to know right now. Pastor Alvin Tan and I will be conducting
more Cell Leaders and Workers Meetings in the near future and please keep some
of week nights free so that you may attend at a moment’s notice.
After
Delta Cell Meetings are launched, we will be cutting back on the training
sessions. We like you to concentrate on building up your Original Cell and then
to launch the Outreach Cells.
The
first mother Delta Cell will be led by our Senior Pastor, Pastor Alvin Tan
and me. This cell will include our church lay leaders. These leaders will then
launch their own Delta Cells.
We
are confident that you will like this new cell system and we believe that this
will impact our church in a fresh way. Remember, Delta Cell Ministry is not a
part of the church programs, it is the whole church itself. V
